Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán analysed the Club’s 1-0 defeat to Barnsley at the John Smith’s Stadium.

A second half goal condemned the Terriers to defeat in what was a very close, scrappy game in West Yorkshire.

When speaking after the game, Carlos explained what went wrong for his side.

“I think it was a real battle because we know how aggressive Barnsley is, we know they’re playing for the Play-Offs and they arrive to the game off the back of one defeat; this type of result makes the challenge always a bit difficult.

“We knew how important today would be to get three points, we wanted to prepare for them in the same way.

“We know sometimes it’s difficult to play out with their high press, we could only do this in the last moments of the game when they were defending the result.

“We knew to compete in the game today we needed a lot of fighting mentality, a lot of brave mentality and a lot of attention on the second balls.

“The game was equal in the first half. It was true that they had some opportunities, but we had options to give some actions with the movements with Koroma in-behind.

“In the second half and in the first minutes they were better than us. They little by little played more balls in our pitch and we had problems making the transition and using their spaces.

“With all the options they had with set pieces and balls close to the ‘keeper they showed they were a dangerous team.

“With a drawing result, we had the opportunity to make a fast transition, and at the same time, we suffered a fast transition. The game was too open in these moments. They used a fast transition to score their goal and that made them be more comfortable in defending the result.

“In the last few minutes, the team reacted the way they needed to react. We tried to play better, inside the Eiting, and we started to win more options with the pressing and play closer to their goal.

“We had a couple of options, but we didn’t get the right cross and we couldn’t get the minimum result we wanted today.”
