Young Huddersfield Town defender David Adewoju is excited for the Youth Alliance League to start as he and his teammates continue to learn the Terriers’ style of play.

Town’s new first-year scholars have been working tirelessly on the training pitch to grasp a brand-new style of play.

As they work through different training blocks – which has been successful with the Young Terriers over the past two seasons – they have also been competing in pre-season friendlies to build up their match fitness.

Alongside playing for Town’s Under-17s group, David was selected in the starting XI that faced Liverpool FC’s Under-18s in a friendly.

He explained how eager he is to be playing more games and how much the Liverpool FC experience benefitted him.

“I’ve been so excited to start the league. We’ve had some pre-season matches and now I’m ready to get extra game time.

“Pre-season with the Under-17s was good, and I played one game with the Under-19s against Liverpool.

“I didn’t think I’d be playing in it. I was told the day before and played for a full 90 minutes; I was really happy with that. It was really good for me to play against them; I learnt a lot from it.”

Like last season, the Under-17 games will be like training matches for the youngsters, who will work on different elements of the Club’s style each week.

David detailed what the Young Terriers have been working on and how that helped him since he joined the Club.

“It’s been good so far; I’ve been really enjoying it. We started with the ‘emotion phase’, so we worked on desire – winning the ball back after losing it – and now we are working on movement in midfield to create more space. I’m learning a lot right now.

“As a centre-back I like driving in a lot, so the movement in the middle is important for me, so I can find my teammates.

“I work closely with Jon (Worthington), George (Danaher) and Oran (Thompson). They know what they want, and they show us exactly what they expect from us.”

The Under-17s’ campaign will get under way on Saturday (12 September 2020) against Notts County and will kick-off at 11am.
