Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Ben Hamer was delighted after the Club’s first win of the 2020/21 Sky Bet Championship season.
Fraizer Campbell’s second half strike earned Town all three points, but Hamer made a valuable contribution making two excellent saves in the first half.
When speaking after the game, he explained why he was so happy with the performance.
“It was a tough first half to be fair, but we created a few chances. We were a lot better than we were in the first two games. We created better chances but didn’t take them. We stuck in there and had to keep the ball out of the net a few times.
“Second half, obviously great run overlap by Toffs, little cut back and a great finish from Fraiz on the volley.
“We should’ve put it to bed at the end; we can’t afford to miss chances like that. We need to work on that and put games to bed when we get the opportunity.
“The boys did really well, defended brilliantly and everyone put a real shift in; that’s what we will need most of the games this season. We will have to work hard and have to grind out results.
“It wasn’t pretty at times, but we dug in and got a 1-0 win, which is really pleasing. It’s a step in the right direction.”
Hamer kept his first clean sheet of the season and was brutally honest post-match when discussing his own performances.
“I’ll be honest I have had a bad time here. I came in first year and it didn’t go well for me; I know that. My performances have to be better to get people back on side.
“Obviously, it’s small steps, this is the first in the right direction. I’m pleased to keep a clean sheet and to get a win.”
