It’s an unusual start to life at a new football club for Naby Sarr, who has been self-isolating for 14-days after arriving at Huddersfield Town from France.
As the defender was a free agent, he had to follow the Government guidelines and has therefore not been able to meet up with his new teammates.
Despite not being at Canalside, and on his own, Naby has been working hard in his hotel room to stay fit.
“It’s a bit horrible to be honest because I’ve joined a club and all I wanted to do is play and get started. Now I have to quarantine for 14 days in my hotel room; it’s annoying, but I have to do it.
“They (the club) are sending me some programmes to do in my hotel room. I can’t see anyone. I’m staying in my room and doing as much as I can to stay fit.”
Since the appointment of Carlos Corberán, there’s been an increased focus on Huddersfield Town’s defenders to be able to play out from the back, something Naby is more than accustom to.
“I’m that kind of centre-back. I’ve been learning this style of football with Lyon and growing like that. I really like to play out from the back.
“I know in this league that sometimes it isn’t possible, but when I can do it, I will do it.
“I think Carlos had an eye on me because he knows my style of play and knows I can be a good match in his team. I think we can do great things together.”
Before joining, the 27-year-old had a long chat with Town striker Karlan Grant.
The pair played together at Charlton Athletic and Karlan told him all about the Club.
“I chose Huddersfield Town because I thought there was a good project here and it’s a very big team. I can match with how the Head Coach wants to play and with the new style.
“I talked with my friend, Karlan Grant, and he only said great things about this club, so yeah, I was really excited, and I think I made a good choice.
“He told me all about the club, what it’s like, the players, staff, everything; it helped to make a decision.”
