Huddersfield Town Head Coach Carlos Corberán says there were positives to take from the Terriers’ competitive opener, but he knows his side have things to work on ahead of the league season.
Town were beaten 1-0 by Rochdale in the Spaniard’s first competitive game in charge, at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Following his side’s subsequent exit from the Carabao Cup, Carlos gave his thoughts on the match when speaking to #HTTV.
“We wanted to continue into the next round of the competition, but we have to accept the result today,” he said.
“In some moments of the game, I am happy with the performance that the team showed, especially in the moments that the team were braver.
“We have some positives from the game today and at the same time, things that we need to learn, things that have to make us grow as a team.
“We are going to use this game to continue growing as a squad.”
As well as being his first game in charge, Carlos also gave debuts to Town Academy graduates Romoney Crichlow and Ben Jackson, whilst Aaron Rowe also made his first home start at senior level.
Town’s Head Coach explained why the youngsters deserved their chance in the season opener.
“We have been working with these players since we started to work here and now, they are part of this squad.
“We have to make the decisions thinking about the players that can help the team to finish the games.”
Attentions now turn to the Sky Bet Championship season and Town’s opener against Norwich City at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday 12 September 2020; 3pm kick-off.
Carlos says his side are going to use the defeat to Rochdale to develop ahead of next weekend’s league kick-off.
“First of all, we need to recover because they gave a good effort today.
“At the same time, we are going to analyse the game and try to learn from every detail that will make us grow as a team.
“After that, we have to prepare for the game.”
