Juninho Bacuna is ready to show what he and his Huddersfield Town teammates have been working on in training against Rochdale.

The Terriers’ first competitive game of the 2020/21 campaign comes in the Carabao Cup at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Due to the extension of last season, the players have had a shorter time to recover, get fit and learn a new style of football under the Club’s new Head Coach.

And now, after just two pre-season friendlies, Bacca explained how he feels ready to get going again because of the intensity of training.

“I’m really excited for the first game. We had a short pre-season, but the squad is fit and ready to play,” said the midfielder.

“Normally in pre-season you have six or seven weeks to recover, get fit and get used to a new style of play.

“In this short time, we’ve been working hard every day on the new style and I think you could see in the pre-season games that we know what we want to do and how we want to play.

“Saturday is the first time we will do it in an official, competitive game and we are ready to show it!”

There’s been a lot of changes under Carlos Corberán and Bacuna explained how the team is reaping the benefits from that.

“We’ve only had three days off since we returned for pre-season, which is different, but it’s good because you get fit and you are ready for the high intensity the Head Coach wants in games. It’s been good for the team, the players and myself to get fit.

“Training has been crazy; we get into the Training Ground at 9am and I get home at 7pm!

“It’s different, but if you want to have a new style, that is totally different from before, then you need to spend as much time as possible together to get on the same page.

“It’s high intensity football and I’m ready to show what we’ve been doing when the season starts, and I think I’m speaking for everyone.”
