Young Terriers show good attitude and application in latest Youth Alliance game

- Young Terriers continue work on the attacking phases against Bradford City
- Myles Bright and Jonas Ndombasi on target for Town’s Under-17s
- Coach Jon Worthington impressed with his side’s attitude and application

Huddersfield Town’s Under-17s showed off their attacking work on the build, create and finish phases as they beat Bradford City 2-1 on Saturday.

Having started the game well and showing promising signs going forward, they were duly rewarded after 25 minutes when Myles Bright found some space on the edge of the box and curled an effort into the bottom corner.

Town managed to create more chances as the match went on, whilst simultaneously putting in a shift defensively to keep an intense Bradford City side at bay and managed to double their lead midway through the second half through trialist Jonas Ndombasi.

The Bantams pulled a goal back late on despite the best efforts of Nicholas Bilokapic, but the Young Terriers remained composed and held on to achieve a positive result.

And Under-17s Coach Worthy was left happy due to a number of factors after the match, notably their attitude and application.

“I thought it was a really good game, two sides competing, trying to play football and trying to do the right things,” he said. “There was some good quality at times, in terms of spirit and application from our lads; I was really pleased.

“In terms of games like this, when you play a local rival, sometimes it’s just down to attitude, application and commitment, and I thought the lads had that in abundance. It was something I used to relish as a player, and I think the players should understand that too.”

Worthy also spoke about the Under-17s’ work in training, and how he feels the group are progressing nicely as professionals coming through the Huddersfield Town Academy.

“We’ve worked hard on the create and finish phases, the first goal from Myles was a brilliant goal, and that’s been coming to be honest; he’s been working really hard on that final third of his game, it was pleasing for him to get the goal.

“We have to remember our programme is about developing players and getting them to the First Team but when players perform to the level that’s when you start to see results.

“I think we’re progressing nicely as a group both on and off the pitch. It’s really important that we’re helping the lads get life experience as well as footballers, which is what we’re keen to do through our programme. I think they’re doing well.

“We’re moving into the fight zone, focusing on the high pressing, something which the first team are doing well, so there’s loads of out of possession concepts we will be working on over the next few weeks.”

Worthy and the Young Terriers will turn their attention to the Clarets’ Cup on Tuesday as they face Barnsley at Canalside; 1pm kick-off.
