Huddersfield Town have today completed the signing of 28-year-old Spanish midfielder Álex Vallejo, pending international clearance!

The 28-year-old, who plays as a deep-lying midfielder and can operate at centre back, joins the Terriers as a free agent on a contract running until 30 June 2021, when the Club has an option on a further year’s extension.

Standing at 6’ 3” tall, Álex is a former Spain Under-19 international who has extensive experience in Spain’s second division, LaLiga2. Having progressed through the Academy at Deportivo Alavés, he has subsequently played regularly for RCD Mallorca, Córdoba CF and most recently CF Fuenlabrada.

He underwent his medical in Spain on Thursday and put pen-to-paper on his contract on Sunday.

Huddersfield Town’s Head of Football Operations Leigh Bromby explained:

“Álex is well known to Carlos and is a player we have discussed and watched together at length ahead of completing the signing.

“We know the frequency of our league games between now and the end of the season is more intense than ever, and Álex adds depth in a very important position in our team and squad.

“I spoke with him on several occasions and he is passionate about this chance to play in England. He now has the opportunity to impress everyone between now and the end of the season.”

Head Coach Carlos Corberán added:

“Álex Vallejo is a midfielder who can help the team in playing out to build attacks. He will receive the ball from our defenders and make the transition into the higher part of the team.

“He has experience in the second division on Spain and now this is an opportunity for him to show the strengths he has with the ball, and to grow and adapt to the defensive demands of the Championship, to become an important player in our squad.”
