FIVE-STAR U19 PERFORMANCE AT MAN UTD!

19 October 2020

Academy side puts training lessons together impressively

- Huddersfield Town Under-19 side takes on Manchester United
- Training lessons put together as youngsters challenged to perform
- 5-0 win at Man Utd’s training ground to cap impressive display

A young Huddersfield Town Under-19 side rose to the challenge of putting together all the lessons learned in training to perform against an elite side on Friday afternoon.

Jon Worthington led the Young Terriers against a Manchester United Academy side at the AON Training Complex and his side rose to the challenge, winning 5-0 in a very impressive display.

The hallmarks we are beginning to see from Carlos Corberán’s First Team were on display, with an energetic, high-tempo performance proving too much for the hosts.

16-year-old forward Conor Falls (pictured above) grabbed the headlines with a clinical display up front, grabbing four goals with some fantastic finishes, whilst winger Pat Jones – who combined excellently down the left with full back Luke Daley – scored the fifth.

However, there were impressive displays all over the pitch – a fact even more impressive when you consider that Josh Austerfield was the only true Under-19 player on the pitch. Alongside four-goal man Falls, Town also had 16-year olds Brodie Spencer, David Adewoju and Donay O’Brien-Brady play the full 90 minutes.

Academy Coach Jon Worthington commented:

“Performances of this nature, when our players have the opportunity to face opposition of their own age, shows that our process is working. It gives the players the belief that the hard work that we put in every day in training, as well as in development games, can really bear fruit when they are challenged to put it all together and perform.

“Credit to the players for what they did on Friday. The hard work to improve will continue.”

On Saturday, an experimental Under-17 side hosted Eccleshill United at Canalside to continue their early education on Town’s way of playing, eventually winning 5-4.
