There was plenty of action to work through on an eventful afternoon at the John Smith’s Stadium, where the Terriers took an early lead through Fraizer Campbell’s second goal of the season; he converted an excellent pass from the returning Lewis O’Brien.
There was another flashpoint before the interval as the Town players reacted to a strong Brad Potts challenge on Campbell, but the referee only produced a yellow card when those of a Terriers persuasion believed it should have been red.
Preston came out of the blocks flying in the second half and turned things around with a quickfire brace from midfielder Alan Browne.
Town tried gamely to get back in it, undeterred by Naby Sarr’s sending off, but the closest they came was a low drive from Pipa that hit the outside of the near post.
