Carlos Corberán says new signing Naby Sarr has completed his first full week of training and is in contention for Huddersfield Town’s squad this Saturday against Rotherham United.

The defender originally had to undergo a 14-day quarantine period upon signing for the Club having returned to his native France over the summer but has since completed his first full week of training with the First Team squad at Canalside.

Speaking in his virtual press conference on Thursday afternoon ahead of the weekend’s trip to the AESSEAL New York Stadium, Carlos says the defender could be involved for the first time in a Town shirt on Saturday.

“Sarr wasn’t involved in the previous game because he could only work with the group for two days before it and usually in the final two days, the intensity of the training isn’t the same as in the first days of the week.

“Fortunately, he could complete this week as normal. He is going to be one of the players that will be ready for the squad.”

Another centre-back that missed the win over Forest was Captain Christopher Schindler, who was absent from the victory with a hamstring issue.

In his place, Jonathan Hogg captained the Terriers but was forced off during the first half of that encounter. Carlos is facing making a late call on the availability of the pair ahead of Saturday’s trip to South Yorkshire.

“With Schindler, he’s been training today as his first training back. We are going to see what the reaction of today’s training is.

“Something I don’t want to take is more risk of injury. It’s important to have available players for consecutive games. He has options to play or we don’t play with him.

“[With Hogg] We don’t know yet how he’s going to feel. He’s doing everything he can do to be there with the team because he knows he’s an important player for us. He’s a competitive player and he always wants to be with the team.

“Now, we need to wait until tomorrow to know if he’ll be ready to help the team or not.”

Whilst speaking with the media on Thursday afternoon, Town’s Head Coach also provided an update on the recoveries of Lewis O’Brien and Danny Ward.

Both are yet to appear for the Terriers in the Sky Bet Championship this season, but the Spaniard is hoping that the pair are now in the final stages of the recoveries from their respective injuries.

“From an injury point of view, the situation with Lewis O’Brien is the same as the previous week; he continues to be in the last part of the job.

“I hope he can recover to be in the normal training in the next week and he can take advantage of the international break to work for a couple of weeks with the team.

“I think once he completes two weeks with the team, he is going to be more ready to be an option in the games.

“(With Danny Ward) I hope he is in the last part of the recovery, but we need to wait a little bit more for him to recover with the group.”
