Huddersfield Town’s Under-19 side host Walsall on Tuesday 1 December 2020 in their latest Central League Cup fixture.

The Young Terriers are currently top of their group with three wins under their belt, which included a win over Walsall in their previous fixture.

Under-19s Coach, Jon Worthington, discussed why the youngsters have become hard to beat in the competition.

“I think our performances have been consistent, there’s only one against Scunthorpe that wasn’t.

“The lads are understanding of the style, the objectives and the expectations that we’re wanting from them and from the game. They’ve executed that very well in the other games.

“All the work we do in training, you try and be consistent with and then you hope that the players take that work through into the games. Fortunately, that’s exactly what they’ve done.

“Regardless of personnel – there have been different teams with different levels of experience – as there’s a clear identity and a clear style at the Club, the players have stepped in and handled it well.”

Worthy went on to discuss why competitions such as the Central League Cup are important for the Young Terriers.

“I think every game that we play is important.

“The Cup is a league format at the minute, but we really want to push and get through that into the knockout format, because that will give the lads different experiences and that’s what’s really important for their development at the minute.”

Worthy also highlighted what he hopes his side will take away from Tuesday’s fixture.

“First and foremost, it’s another opportunity for players to get minutes, which is the important thing.

“There’s always got to be an aim to training in terms of their development and getting game time is extremely important for us throughout the Club.

“As it’s a Cup game we’ll be looking to try and deliver and win the game. We want to really bring out that clear concept in and out of possession.”
