YOUNG TERRIERS WORK ON SPECIFICS IN ROTHERHAM WIN

27 November 2020

Young Terriers show positive attitude to battle back against Rotherham

- Huddersfield Town Academy side given great test as they work on specific scenarios
- Young Terriers score four well-taken goals as they came from behind to win
- Coach Jon Worthington pleased with his side’s character to overcome a tough opponent

Huddersfield Town’s Young Terriers showed great character and attitude to come from behind against Rotherham as they worked on specific scenarios.

It was an entertaining match, with the Young Terriers coming out on top, and was a great opportunity to work on specific match scenarios, having to bounce back from going behind twice and then hold out late on.

The hosts grabbed their first two goals early on at the start of each half, but on both occasions Town showed great character to push back against Rotherham’s low block and grab equalisers in a matter of minutes.

Worthington's youngsters then went on to win the game, scoring twice more from two well-worked, excellently-taken counter attacking moves in the final 10 minutes.

Rotherham pushed back themselves, and pulled one back late on, but Worthy’s side held out for the final few minutes to end a great performance on a high.

“I was pleased at plenty of good stuff; there was some sustained pressure and a lot of positives for us to take away today,” he said.

“The character of the lads was great throughout; it’s always good when the team comes from behind. We showed good energy and good fitness levels and in the end got what we deserved.

“On the balance of the play we had the majority of possession, and credit to Rotherham they have two well drilled banks of four behind the ball and made it difficult at times for us - that’s football.

“We knew that if they did let numbers go forward then we’d be able to expose them on the counter on the transition, and we did well to take those two chances at the end.”

The Under-17s will now continue their good work in training, looking mainly at the out of possession play and fight zones as they head into a Clarets Cup tie at Bradford on Tuesday.
