Huddersfield Town Under-19 winger Sam Sharrock-Peplow was pleased to get on the scoresheet in one of his first appearances since returning from injury.

Sharrock-Peplow, who joined Town’s Academy from Manchester United in 2018, scored the opener in a 3-1 win against Salford City in the Central League Cup at Canalside on Wednesday afternoon.

The winger was played through on goal by Ben Jackson and rounded the onrushing goalkeeper before slotting into the empty net to give Town an early lead. The visitors equalised before half-time, but a brace from second-half substitute Kieran Phillips secured the victory for the Young Terriers.

Speaking to htafc.com after the match, Sharrock-Peplow was pleased to be back in and amongst the goals.

“I was happy to play well and get my goal, because after being out for six or seven weeks it’s great to come back with a bang.

“I ran inside from wide, and as the 'keeper came off his line my first thought was to take it round him and slot in.

“Overall, I thought we played very well as a team. We kept the ball well and successfully played through the thirds. It was a good performance all round.”

He added that he is benefitting from the style of football at the Club and expressed his ambition to feature in the First Team in the future.

“We work hard in training and it’s all starting to come together now. We want to try to play a certain way and replicate the style of the First Team. It clearly worked today.

“Seeing the likes of Roms [Romoney Crichlow], who I played with a lot last season, playing in the First Team and being 'Man of the Match' in his first game makes you want to work hard to do the same.

“So, it just goes to show it’s possible to do what you dream of doing. You want to be playing on the big stages and that’s hopefully what I can do in the coming years.

“I just want to keep going, get my head down, and keep working hard. I want to get as close to the First Team as I can, but I need to secure my place in this team and perform week in, week out.”

Sam and his Under-19 teammates will be back in action on Wednesday 25 November 2020, when they host Sheffield Wednesday. You can follow live updates of the match on Town’s Academy Twitter; @htafcacademy.
