Defender heading to Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

- Huddersfield Town’s Naby Sarr receives international call-up
- Defender joins the Senegal squad for the second time
- Centre back could make debut in Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers

Huddersfield Town defender Naby Sarr has been called into the Senegal squad for two important 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers!

The 27-year-old centre back has been impressive for Town across his seven Sky Bet Championship starts so far and has now received a summons from Senegal Head Coach Aliou Cissé for a pair of games against Guinea-Bissau.

This isn’t Naby’s first involvement in the Senegal squad, but he is yet to make his debut for his country.

Although born in France and playing for that country at youth level, Naby is eligible for Senegal through his heritage. His father, Boubacar Sarr, was born in Dakar, Senegal; he subsequently played most of his career as a striker in France.

Senegal sit top of qualifying Group I in the AFCON 2021 qualifiers, having won their first two games against Eswatini and Congo.

Naby and his international teammates now face Guinea-Bissau on home soil on Wednesday, 4pm kick-off UK time, before the return game away on Sunday, also in a 4pm UK kick-off.

The top two teams from the four-team group qualify for the final tournament in Cameroon, which has been delayed until January 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
