Danny Schofield’s side wins latest Central League game

- Town’s Elite Development Team beat Blackpool 4-0
- Kieran Phillips grabbed a hat-trick and Demeaco Duhaney scored
- Kamil Grabara was one of Danny Cowley’s First Team players who featured

A Kieran Phillips hat-trick helped Huddersfield Town’s Elite Development Team to a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Blackpool Reserves in the Central League.

Demeaco Duhaney’s screamer opened the scoring for Town shortly before the break, which was then followed by three goals from Phillips to earn the Young Terriers a comfortable win.

A number of Danny Cowley’s squad were in action for Town, including Kamil Grabara. The on-loan Liverpool FC goalkeeper was making his first appearance since picking up a head injury during the First Team’s 2-1 victory at Hull City.

Town began the game in the ascendancy, but openings were at a premium due to the visitors’ deep defensive line. The first chance of the afternoon fell to Jaheim Headley, whose low drive was destined for the bottom corner but for a good clearance off the line.

Olly Dyson, who was a useful outlet down the right throughout the first half, then went close to an opener. His initial effort was blocked, but it rebounded back kindly to him and he then saw his second attempt saved by the ‘keeper.

The Young Terriers then made their possession count five minutes before the interval. A short corner from Matty Daly picked out Duhaney on the edge of the box, who turned onto his right-foot and fired home an unstoppable effort from the edge of the area.

It got even better for Town in added time of the first half, when they doubled their advantage following a swift counter attack. Daly’s excellent switch of play located the run of Dyson in space. He drove at the heart of the Blackpool defence, before feeding Phillips, who dispatched the opportunity clinically into the corner.

Schofield’s side were forced to soak up some early pressure in the second half and Grabara was called into action, as he bravely dived at the feet of Joe Nuttall to preserve Town’s two goal lead.

The Young Terriers then put the game beyond doubt. Aaron Rowe did well to win the ball from Ryan Edwards high up the field, before he advanced into the penalty area and found Phillips. The on-loan Everton striker had the simple task of sliding home and duly obliged.

Some more good pressing from Town’s youngsters earned them their fourth goal of the afternoon. Substitute Will McCamley won the ball in the Blackpool half and in similar fashion to the third, squared for Phillips who tapped home for his hat-trick.
