LOAN: JOSH AUSTERFIELD JOINS BRIGHOUSE

7 March 2020

Midfielder heads out for his first taste of senior football

- Huddersfield Town Academy midfielder Josh Austerfield leaves on loan
- Centre-midfielder joins BetVictor Northern North West Division side Brighouse Town
- Comments from Academy Manager Leigh Bromby

Huddersfield Town Academy midfielder Josh Austerfield has joined Brighouse Town on loan.

The loan spell at the BetVictor Northern North West Division club will run until Monday 30 March 2020.

This is the first loan spell for the 18-year-old and will give him the invaluable experience of senior men’s football in the next step of his development.

The youngster signed for Huddersfield Town at Under-8 level from junior club Drighlington and has since been a key figure for the Young Terriers.

Josh, who was born in Morley (Leeds), plays in the middle of midfield, where he can showcase his impressive passing range and ever-improving defensive abilities.

Austerfield was one of a handful of Academy players who travelled with Danny Cowley's First Team squad to a training camp in Dubai in November 2019, after which he made two appearances in the senior squad. He was an unused sub for the Sky Bet Championship games against Leeds United and Charlton Athletic in December 2019.

Josh’s contract at Town will run until 30 June 2021, with the Club having the option of a further year’s extension. He signed his first professional deal with the Terriers in August 2019.

He joins Brighouse Town as the Club chases promotion from the BetVictor Northern North West Division, the eighth tier of the English football pyramid. Vill Powell’s side currently sits seventh in the division, six points off the Play-Off places.

Huddersfield Town Academy Manager Leigh Bromby explained:

“Josh has impressed in our Academy and now we want to further his development by giving him increased exposure of the physicality of men’s football.

“He’s at an important stage of his development where he needs to play in competitions that really matter.

“He’ll get both of those at Brighouse Town in a vital part of their season as they attempt to get in the Play-Off places. I’d like to thank Vill and everyone at the Club for helping to make this move happen.

“Josh is a very talented midfielder and I’m looking forward to seeing him impress for Brighouse.”
