Huddersfield Town striker Fraizer Campbell has revealed that the atmosphere around the dressing room is positive ahead of Saturday’s West Yorkshire derby against Leeds United.
Town enter the weekend’s fixture on the back of two consecutive home victories over Bristol City and Charlton Athletic.
Speaking to #HTTV ahead of the match, Fraizer explained that the squad is in a buoyant mood and are excited at the prospect of extending their winning run.
“We had two great results last week on the back of a disappointing one, so it was important for us to bounce back.
“With the situation that we’re in near the bottom of the table, it’s vitally important to start picking up some points and we did that in them two games.
“Team spirit is very high, and everyone is looking forward to the Leeds game. It’s a local derby and they’re doing really well so hopefully we can go and put on a real good show and continue our run as well.”
Saturday’s encounter will be the first taste of a West Yorkshire derby for several of Danny Cowley’s squad, but Fraizer has insisted that no one will need any extra incentive come Saturday afternoon.
“All week it’s all people have been talking about it. No matter where you go, you hear it so I don’t think anyone will need any motivation to get themselves up for the game.
“Everyone’s played in some sort of derby wherever that may be, but it’s extra special for the people of Huddersfield, and the people of Leeds, so they’ll feel that all week and they’ll definitely feel that on Saturday.”
Despite the positive run of results last week, Town still sit only four points above the relegation zone. Fraizer recognised the importance of maintaining this run of form, due to the nature of the division.
“You win the last two games and you think you’ve got a bit of breathing space, but the run of form that some teams have been on below and around us has been just as good as ours.
“You can’t really focus too much on the other teams and with 10 games to go we’ve got to try and win as many of them as possible.
“We’re in a good place now. Hopefully we’re in a better place than some of the teams around us and hopefully we can carry that on into Saturday and the week after. Then we’ll see where that takes us in the next four or five games.”
Fraizer, who grew up in Huddersfield, revealed there is not just a rivalry in the stands, but within his family too. He is hoping that he will hold the bragging rights come the weekend.
“We’ve got Bradford fans, we’ve got Leeds fans and obviously Huddersfield Town fans too. So, there is a big mix of supporters in my family, but hopefully it will be the Huddersfield Town fans that will be happier come Saturday!”
