What a moment this was! Take a look back at Town’s momentous home victory over Manchester United in the Premier League at the John Smith’s Stadium in 2017.

David Wagner’s side got the better of United when they welcomed José Mourinho’s side to the John Smith’s Stadium back in October 2017.

Town were the underdogs of the fixture, as a newly promoted team to the top-flight up against 13-time Premier League winners Manchester United.

Aaron Mooy grabbed the Terriers’ first goal, putting the home side ahead 28 minutes in, after Juan Mata gave the ball away in midfield. Tom Ince’s shot was saved by David de Gea, but a rebounding Mooy swept in from 10 yards taking the lead for the home side.

The Terriers extended their lead only five minutes later when a misjudged goal kick led Laurent Depoitre to race onto the loose ball, round De Gea and double the Terriers’ lead before the break.

United were not without their chances, and got one back in the second half. Half-time substitute Marcus Rashford gave United hope, with 12 minutes left he headed in a cross from Romelu Lukaku. Unfortunately for United it was their first and only goal of the game.

Beating Manchester United for the first time in 65 years, Town not only walked away with three points, but they also ended Mourinho’s unbeaten start to United’s 2017/18 season.

After the match Mourinho had praised the Terriers’ saying, “the team that wanted it more won.”

Then-Club Captain, Tommy Smith, was also on hand to praise his teammates saying: “I am absolutely over the moon for every single person involved with the Club and especially everyone in our dressing room.

“We knew it would be a really tough game. We made it difficult for them; that’s what we wanted to do.”

Then-Head Coach David Wagner said the win over United was “one of the proudest moments of his managerial time at Huddersfield Town and one of the best moments in the history of this proud football club.”
