Huddersfield Town Academy Coach Danny Schofield says his side will benefit from playing with First Team players ahead of the game against Blackpool.

Schofield returned to the Club in February 2020, after making 285 appearances during his 10-year spell as a midfielder for Town.

Since re-joining as a Coach, Danny has been emphasising the importance of player relationships on the pitch to his team in training.

“We’ve been focusing a lot on relationships between the players and their movements, so relationships between full backs and wingers, attacking movements from attacking players, and forward movements in from behind.

“We’ve been looking at stretching play so we can really damage the opposition if we get the chance.

“Defensively we’ve worked a lot one vs ones, being aggressive, winning the ball, playing on the front foot and anticipating the play so we can be first to the ball and not give the opposition any time.”

The Young Terriers take on Blackpool Reserves on Tuesday, whom they beat 4-3 in the reserve fixture back in November 2019. Danny discussed what he expects to see from his youngsters.

“First and foremost, effort and application.

“We’ve also got the fundamentals of football, so when we press can we get the ball high up, depending on the opposition we play against if they play it long can we win first balls can we win second balls.

“When we’re in possession can we be expansive, can we be creative, can we build and play up through the thirds.

“I want us to be very courageous in possession, so plenty of movement, plenty of relationships between players and for things we’ve been working on in training to materialise on the pitch.”

A few Huddersfield Town First Team players will be part of the action with the Young Terriers, something which Danny admits is beneficial for his players.

“I think it’s good for my lads to see those players listen to their experiences and it can only benefit them.

“It helps set the standards for the younger players to match and know what they need to achieve in order to make the step up in to the First Team.”

The game will kick-off at 1pm on Tuesday 6 March 2020. It’ll take place at PPG Canalside and Huddersfield Town supporters can watch the EDT in action for FREE!

Please note there is currently NO parking at PPG Canalside.
