- Defender will still be eligible for Huddersfield Town this season
- Comments from Manager Danny Cowley

Jon Gorenc Stanković will join Austrian side SK Sturm Graz following the end of the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season.

The 24-year-old will still be eligible for Danny Cowley’s side for the final seven games of the season after showing a commitment to the Club by extending his contract by an extra month to help Town’s battle to stay in the Sky Bet Championship.

Jon joined Huddersfield Town from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2016 and helped write a new chapter in the Terriers’ history. He made 12 appearances in his first season before suffering a knee injury which kept him out for a sustained period of time.

After recovering to full fitness, the defender – who was also utilised in a defensive midfield role – went on to make 11 Premier League appearances and scored his first Town goal against Manchester City.

So far during the 2019/20 campaign, the former Slovenian U21 international has featured 18 times.

In all competitions, Jon has made 43 appearances for Huddersfield Town and scored two goals.

Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley commented:

“We think a lot of Jon and see a lot of potential. He's a diligent professional and we were keen to keep him, but it wasn’t possible and that’s no fault of anybody’s.

“It's disappointing for me and everyone at the Club, but that's the reality of the situation.

“I'm not surprised he's found a new club so quickly. In other circumstances he could have played more.

“Credit to him because he could walk away now and prepare for their season, but he wants to see this through. The Club means a lot to him, he's a really good human being and wants to see this to fruition.”
