Huddersfield Town’s brand-new Commercial Director Andy Ward spoke about his role for the first time!

Ward, who brings a wealth of experience at the highest levels of the commercial sector in sports, began working at the Club on 15 June 2020.

He explained how delighted he is to start his new role and why this was right for him.

“I think Huddersfield Town is such a unique club; it’s so embedded within the local town and the fanbase is exceptional.

“The challenge also attracted me. Based on the current environment, it gives us all a serious opportunity. Instead of looking at it negatively, I think there’s a significant opportunity here.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be appointed into this role at Huddersfield Town and I’m looking forward to meeting the extended teams and getting stuck in.”

The current COVID-19 situation has brought its challenges to businesses up and down the country.

With commercial income key to a Football Clubs sustainability, Ward explained how he and his team need to be innovative and adaptable during this situation to get new deals done.

“I think there’s two ways of looking at this; the view of ‘oh it’s going to be really hard, what are we going to do’ or you can look at it ‘well, where’s the opportunity’.

“Without saying it’s going to be easy, because it’s not, there’s many companies out there who have seen their business grow considerably due to COVID-19. There are companies out there who are still successful.

“There are companies who are perhaps struggling and are partners of Huddersfield Town, but we will be supporting them, and they will be supporting us.

“It’s about building relationships, understanding the market and knowing where those opportunities are; it’s not easy but we will certainly do our very best.”

There’s a lot of questions regarding the 2020/21 campaign, but in preparation for it, a key priority for Town’s Commercial Director is to get a front of shirt sponsor.

“My number one priority is the front of shirt sponsor and to ensure we have secured that for the start of next season, when that happens.

“That’ll taking up quite a lot of my time over the next few months, I can imagine.”
