Huddersfield Town EDT Coach Danny Schofield is looking forward to the chance to manage the Terriers against Millwall on Wednesday evening.

Town’s Elite Development Coach will take charge of the First Team for their final Sky Bet Championship game of the season at The Den on Wednesday 22 July 2020.

Having spent a decade at Town as a player, Danny returned to the Club in February to work with the Academy’s EDT and Under-19 sides.

He’s now looking forward to the opportunity to work with the First Team from the dugout on Wednesday evening.

“It’s a great opportunity,” he said.

“I’m not sure whether this experience will ever come again, so I’m looking to enjoy every moment of it.

“Millwall being an ex-club of mine as well, I think it’s quite surreal really. I’m looking forward to it.”

On the night, he will be assisted by Head of Goalkeeping Paul Clements, Academy Coach Jon Worthington and experienced centre-back Tommy Elphick, who is on the road to recovery from a long-term knee injury.

Speaking to the media for the first time since his appointment for Wednesday night’s game, Danny gave an insight into what it has been like working with those guys over the last 24 hours.

“It’s been really good. It’s obviously been a whirlwind in a short space of time but I think there’s a good mix there with Tommy still being a player, Clem working in the First Team now for a number of seasons, and me and Worthy coming in from the Academy.

“There’s been a really good blend and some really good discussions and ideas about how we prepare for this game which I’ve enjoyed.”

Town go into the season finale at The Den having all but secured their Sky Bet Championship status for another season, following Friday evening’s 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

With survival still not mathematically certain, Danny is hoping to build on the momentum from that win over the Baggies with a view to finishing the season in the best way possible.

“The focus is to go into that game as if it is of the upmost importance, so we need (the players) to perform for the Club, for the fans and for themselves as well to really give everything they can.

“I think a lot of good work has already been done at the First Team level. It’s a case, in the short period of time, continuing on that, continuing that momentum and hopefully we get a good result.”

To do that, Danny’s side will be tasked with overcoming a Millwall team that have been in good form in recent weeks, narrowly missing out on a Play-Off spot with one game to go.

Town’s Interim Manager gave his thoughts on Wednesday’s opponents.

“They’re very well organised. They have a very clear way of playing football and almost made the Play-Offs this season having just missed out.

“The job Gary Rowett has done in the time he’s been there has been fantastic really.”
