Under-17s to keep focusing on possession and create elements of their game

- Huddersfield Town’s Under-17s took on Doncaster Rovers
- Young Terriers worked on possession in the create phase
- Comments from Coach Jon Worthington

Huddersfield Town’s youngsters continued their development as they tried to implement their possession-based game against Doncaster Rovers.

The latest coaching block for the Under-17s has been based around the ‘create’ phase with the youngsters working on possession and chance creation alongside their original fundamentals.

They were tasked to bring that into the Doncaster Rovers game and showed some positive elements in the opening 45 minutes.

“The basic fundamentals like the fight zones and decision making were ok in the first half and the lads were able to show what we’d been working on in training,” said Jon Worthington.

“They tried to show their ability on the ball in possession, but in all honesty had some poor moments with that.

“We will analyse those moments with the players, show them what they did well and what needs improvement.”

The game also showed Worthy a lot about the youngsters’ characters. The Young Terriers conceded four goals in a 20-minute spell, which is something that’s hard for any side to take.

Town’s Under-17 Coach explained how the experience will benefit the youngsters in the long run.

“For me that second half gave me a real insight into the personalities in the group, which is really valuable going forward.

“I think for them they will have learnt that in that moment. They now know that you need to regroup, stick together and do the basic fundamentals to stop conceding.

“Also, in situations like that you need those characters that will lift the spirits or more voices on the pitch and that’s something that they can all take from this match.”
