Young Terriers’ work on playing through the midfield pays off

Huddersfield Town’s Under-17s continued development work paid off against Blackburn as they ran out 3-0 winners on Tuesday afternoon.
The match provided the Young Terriers with the opportunity to put into practice the techniques they’ve been learning in training.
It paid off as the youngsters left Lancashire comfortable winners thanks to goals either side of half-time.
After a disappointing result for the Under-17s against Doncaster on Saturday, Coach Jon ‘Worthy’ Worthington was pleased with how his team performed against Blackburn.
“We went into the game focusing on the fundamentals in terms of application and effort - a minimum requirement for our footballers.
“I really pushed for that and for them to give some real desire and intensity to the game, so it was good to get a good reaction and response to that.”
The youngsters were on the right side of the scoresheet this time round, with a trialist, Robson Shipley and Ernaldo Krasniqi all adding to a comfortable victory. Worthy admits a change in mindset was beneficial to helping his side perform to its potential.
“It was important for us all to be able to reflect on Saturday, assess what we didn’t do well and work on it to produce a positive performance on Tuesday.”
Town’s Under-17 Coach explained what the youngsters can take forward from the game.
“There was loads to take in terms of the character and application, that was excellent, but also we were good out of possession; we pressed them high and aggressively and it was very effective.
“In possession we created numerous chances and won the game comfortably in the end.
“It’s a case now of detail on the finish and being clinical moving forward.”
