New Huddersfield Town midfielder Andy King explained that conversations with Danny Cowley persuaded him to join the Club.

The experienced Welsh international, who has joined the Terriers on loan, had numerous phone calls with Town’s Manager about the role he could play at the Club.

In his first interview, Andy admitted to #HTTV how important those discussions were.

“I’m delighted to join. I spoke to the Manager a few times on the phone recently and he was keen to get me up here. Once I spoke to him on the phone, I was keen to come.

“I know a couple of the lads here, Stears (Richard Stearman) who just signed, Danny Simpson as well. They only had good things to say about the Club, the squad and the Manager, so I’m delighted to be here.

“He (Danny Cowley) said he’s got an exciting group of young players who need a bit of guidance and experience, you know, people who know the league, obviously with me having been promoted from it before.

“A bit of everything to try and help the young lads, but also to bring my qualities on the pitch as well to try and help the team.

“He made no bones that it’s about staying up this season and I’m looking to help do that. I’m sure with the squad we’ve got we can.”

The Premier League winner spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Rangers but found his game time limited.

Now in West Yorkshire, he’s keen to make his mark on the pitch.

“With injuries and what not I haven’t played as much as I’d have liked recently. Leicester are doing fantastically well, which has made chances hard there as well.

“I’m delighted to be here, hopefully I can help the team when called-up on the younger lads as well.

“The Manager needs people who are up for the fight and who’s hearts are in it and every time I take the pitch, I’m prepared to give it 110% and I’m sure if we do that more often than not then we’ll be fine.”

King is eligible for Huddersfield Town this weekend and could make his debut against Brentford at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“It’ll be good to hit the ground running,” said the 31-year-old.

“There’s a lot of good players here who will think that they deserve to play, but it’s about who the Manager picks.

“Whether that’s me or someone else, I’m looking to have a really good back end of the season trying to be successful with the team.”
