Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley discussed what the Emirates FA Cup means to him ahead of this weekend’s Third Rounds tie against Southampton.

The Terriers were knocked out of the Third Round last time round due to a 72nd minute goal from Bristol City’s Josh Brownhill.

However, Town’s Manager is no stranger to success in the Emirates FA Cup having a number of cup runs with his previous clubs. He explained how excited he is ahead of this weekend’s match.

“We love the FA Cup, it’s been a great competition for us.

“It’s a cup competition that we love, to me it’s the greatest competition in the world and we’re certainly looking forward to the game come Saturday.

“We’ve got the opportunity to go to a Premier League Club that are doing very, very well in recent weeks, we understand exactly how big that challenge is, but it’s a game that we’re looking forward to.

“It’s fresh and different from the league. The FA Cup is a brilliant competition and we’ll be doing our very best to try to find a way, but we’re under no illusions exactly how tough it’s going to be off the back of what we’ve had, but we love football.”

Huddersfield Town go into the game off the back off a home defeat to Stoke City after a tough Christmas period.

Despite it not being completely plain sailing since his arrival in West Yorkshire, he’s pleased with the points his side has accrued so far.

“I think considering the situation and the circumstances I think we’re pleased with the outcome in terms of points.

“When I first arrived at the Club on 9 September we had one point, we now sit with 28 points. I think I would have given you my right arm there and then to be in this position.

“It was always to try to get to January and try to then help the current set of players to allow us all as a football club to get us to where we want to go.”

With the January Transfer Window now open, Danny Cowley gave his early thoughts on what fans may be able to expect in the coming weeks.

“We have total clarity over the profile of player and the type of characters that we want in the building. We understand what we can do and what we can’t do.

“We’re working hard to try to give ourselves some more balance in the group and a little bit more experience and a little bit more leadership.

“First and foremost, they have to adhere to the values that we have as a football club. I’ve been here over 90 days now and I’ve started to get a real feel for the DNA of the Club – down to earth, honest, hardworking, humble people are the people that historically do well here.

“Definitely players with those values, fast learners, hard workers with a love and enthusiasm for the game always works well for Nicky and I.

“Obviously they have to have the technical, tactical and physical attributes to fit as well.”
