U17s TAKE ON INDONESIAN SIDE ON TUESDAY

17 February 2020

Jon Worthington’s Young Terriers set to face Garuda Select

- Huddersfield Town Under-17s to play against Garuda Select

- Supporters can attend

Huddersfield Town’s Under-17s side will travel to the Midlands to take on Indonesian side Garuda Select on Tuesday 18 February 2020.

As the Under-17s continue to work on their development, they face a different challenge to usual when they take on Garuda Select on Tuesday.

Garuda Select are a representation team made up of the best U18 players from Indonesia and are touring the UK.

Academy Head of Recruitment Emyr Humphreys commented on why the side will be participating in this particular match.

“It’s mainly just a different test for the lads.

“It’s streamed online in Indonesia, thousands of people will be watching it, there’s commentators – it all creates a different sort of pressure that the lads don’t usually get.

“It’s also a chance for us to have a look at a few different players and give minutes to players that aren’t necessarily getting them.”

This is the second time the two sides have met. Town’s youngsters played Garuda when they were over last year with the game ending in a 2-2 draw.

Town took the lead early on thanks to goals from Kian Harratt and Jaheim Headley, but an injury time Garuda goal helped level the score. Emyr spoke about how Garuda are different to the sides the Under-17s usually compete against.

“They’re different stylistically.

“We noticed when we played them last year that they really press the ball everywhere with real intensity which is a different type of physical challenge.

“They’re not as strong or physical in that way compared to the lads that we normally play against but they’re a lot more endurance based – they could run all day!”

Emyr also discussed what the Young Terriers will be hoping to gain from this game.

“We’re in the final week of focusing on playing on the pitch.

“The main focus for this game is around creating and finishing in the final third to create goal scoring opportunities.

“The lads have participated in different training practices to get them on the ball in effective positions to try and score more goals.

“They’ve responded really well to it in training, so this game is another chance to put it into practice in a competitive scenario.”

The game will kick-off at 1pm at Aspray Arena, (WV13 3BB) on Tuesday 18 February 2020 and supporters are welcome to attend.
