Who scored the other historic goals in Huddersfield Town’s history?

Elias Kachunga wrote his name into Huddersfield Town history by scoring the Club’s 6,000th league goal!

He head in from close range against QPR on Saturday 8 February 2020 to give the Terriers the lead. That goal came over 90 years after Town’s 1,000th.

But can you name the other landmark scorers? Club Statistician Alan Hodgson put together the comprehensive list.

Town’s 1,000th goal

Back in 1929, Alex Jackson scored Town’s 1,000th league goal during a First Division match. 25 minutes from time Jackson bagged his landmark goal as Town fought back from being 2-0 down to Sheffield United to eventually draw 2-2.

Town’s 2,000th goal

23 years later (1952) during a huge 6-0 victory over Barnsley, Town’s 2000th goal came from an unlikely scorer. Left-half Len Quested scored a second-half screamer to grab Town’s 2,000th goal and the fifth goal of the day in from of 33,157 fans at Leeds Road.

Town’s 3,000th goal

It only took Colin Dobson two minutes into an Easter Monday fixture back in 1968 to net Town’s 3,000th league goal. Not only was this goal a mile-stone moment it also put his side ahead early into the fixture against Middlesbrough. Dobson grabbed the honour from a direct free-kick at Ayresome Park.

Town’s 4,000th goal

In the Second Division in 1985, the 4,000th league goal came from attacking-midfielder David Cork during an M62 derby. The historic goal came in the 32nd minute when Cork secured his place in Town history putting the Terriers ahead against Oldham Athletic.

Town’s 5,000th goal

13 years ago (2003), Jon Stead grabbed the 5,000th goal in a big 4-0 win over Chesterfield. The biggest win of the season started in the 16th minute when Martin Smith’s volley was deflected into the net. Only six minutes later the momentous 5,000th league goal came when Jon Stead clipped in a lovely strike. Stead later went onto the clench the final fourth goal of the match.

Town’s 6,000th goal

Fast forward to now and 2020 with Elias Kachunga grabbing the 6,000th goal during a 2-0 victory against Queens Park Rangers in front of a home crowd in the Sky Bet Championship. After an assisted cross from new signing Harry Toffolo, Kachunga headed in from very close range.
