Young Terriers focused on their individual development against Garuda

- Town’s Under-17s faced Indonesian side Garuda Select
- Young Terriers developing well as a group
- Coach Jon Worthington felt the match was a good test for the individuals in his side

Huddersfield Town’s Under-17 side had a different type of test this afternoon as they played against Indonesian side Garuda Select.

The Young Terriers had to get used to a different style of play and deal with the added pressure surrounding the game, like the game being streamed live online.

Garuda Select are a representation team made up of the best U18 players from Indonesia.

Jon Worthington’s side continued their development and continued with their current theme of learning, playing on the pitch.

Town’s youngsters worked hard both with and without the ball during the game but fell to defeat against the Indonesian side.

Jon Worthington explained the different style his youngsters came up against and how that’ll help their games develop.

“It was a slightly different style to what the lads would normally come against, with a different physical aspect of the game.

“Garuda were bright and sharp in and around the final third and that’s how they got their goals.

“The lads will be able to learn a lot from being in those situations, which is why games like this are so important.”

The plan for the game was for the youngsters to focus on the parts of their own games that they’d been working on, combined with the overall theme of playing on the pitch.

“We wanted the players as individuals to focus on their game, which is really important for us.

“We can look back at that with the players, see how they’ve progressed and look through the clips; this is really important for the individual players’ development.”

Next up for the Under-17s is a return to the Youth Alliance League schedule against Rotherham at PPG Canalside on Saturday, so Worthy and his squad will have a quick turnaround to prepare for their next development match.

“For the upcoming game, we’ll be re-visiting the out of possession training, looking at high fight zones and working on different aspects of that.”
