Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley was delighted to see his side round off a positive week for the Club with a 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Karlan Grant’s first half goal against his former club had already put the Terriers ahead before three late goals sealed a perfect Saturday for the Terriers in West Yorkshire.
“It’s a good win and it caps off a good week with us taking six points, and a good month for us having taken 10 points,” Danny explained to #HTTV following the game.
“We were pleased with our performance. I think we played particularly well in the first half, into a strong wind, we got a real rhythm into our play. I thought we could have been more ruthless and maybe we’d have come in more than the one goal up.
“Coming out second half, we’d just come off of it a little bit and looked a little bit nervous. But I thought the subs came on and gave us an impetus.
“Stevie (Mounié), Alex Pritchard and Bacca (Juninho Bacuna) did a fantastic job and really helped the boys that started.”
The win was Town’s second at the John Smith’s Stadium in the space of five days, following Tuesday’s victory over Bristol City. Danny was pleased his side could back-up their midweek showing.
“We’re pleased with both performances. I still don’t think we played for 90 minutes today but we’ll never be happy, we’ll always be striving for more and trying to strive for perfect!
“We were probably not as bad as everyone said we were this time last Saturday, and we certainly won’t be as good as everyone is saying we are today.
“What we have to do is stay process-orientated, stay really level-headed and stay really focused. These last two games have set a benchmark and have given us a foundation that we have to push on for.”
Danny was impressed with Town’s work at both ends of the pitch and highlighted the effort of both of his forwards following the Terriers’ late rout on the Charlton goal.
“They all did well today. Fraizer worked his socks off for 73 minutes and then Steve Mounié came on and scores in the 74th minute.
“They all have their partnerships; they work together, and they’ve got a good relationship as a pair.
“I thought Steve came on and held the ball up for us, linked it well and actually had a hand in the other goals as well.
“It was great to see Pritch back on the pitch as well. It’s been a long time coming and [we’re] delighted to have him back in the group.”
Following the win, Town’s manager said the Club will enjoy picking up all three points this evening, but all focus will soon turn to preparing for next weekend’s West Yorkshire derby.
“All it is, is three points. We now have a big game for the Football Club and particularly our supporters next week at Leeds.
“We know exactly how important that is to the people of Huddersfield. We’ll enjoy tonight, but then we’ll be back tomorrow, focused and preparing for Leeds.”
