The night ended in disappointment for the Terriers, with the hosts winning 3-0 in Wales.
Town started in decent fashion, but Cardiff took the lead into the interval by scoring the only goal of the opening 45 minutes. Winger Sheyi Ojo found just enough space to deliver a cross past Demeaco Duhaney to the near post, where striker Kieffer Moore had got free of the attentions of both Christopher Schindler and Naby Sarr to place the ball past Ben Hamer at close range.
The Terriers tried to apply some pressure in the second half, but the momentum was badly stalled by a poor second goal. Hamer played the ball to Sarr and as he tried to check onto his preferred left foot, he mis-controlled the ball – allowing Junior Hoilett to seize upon it in the area and square to Moore for a simple second.
The third goal condemned Town to defeat. Substitute Rarmani Edmonds-Green tried to nick the ball away from the front of striker Robert Glatzel, but the German forward held him off before turning and slamming the ball into the roof of the net.
