Head Coach Carlos Corberán says Ben Hamer could be available to return to the Huddersfield Town squad for the Yorkshire derby against Barnsley on Boxing Day.
The goalkeeper has missed the Terriers’ last two outings having been forced off at half-time during the trip to Bournemouth earlier this month with a groin issue.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Boxing Day clash, Carlos says the ‘keeper could be in contention to return at Oakwell.
“He trained yesterday with the group and he trained again today,” he said.
“He has had no special problem, a little bit of a feeling in the groin but the scan was positive, and I think over the next few days he will start to feel better.
“He is still not 100% but he’s feeling better and training with the group.
“The best thing that can happen to us is have a good performance from the ‘keepers when they are playing,” the Spaniard added.
“I was happy with the performances of Ben Hamer when he was in the first XI and I am happy with how (Ryan) Schofield is doing.
“These questions are positive for us because they make the team stronger.”
Whilst looking ahead to Saturday’s Yorkshire derby, Carlos also provided an update on the fitness of Danny Ward.
The forward has suffered a reoccurrence of a hamstring problem in recent weeks and it is a problem that will unfortunately keep him out of the Terriers’ next few games, explained Carlos.
“He is continuing working with the medical staff,” he said.
“I don’t expect to have him until the new year. We know after this game we’ve got two more quickly.
“I know how difficult it must be for him because he had a long-term injury.
“So, we need to be careful, we don’t want to take a step back. We want to recover him fully and allow him to give all the best with what he has for the Club.”
