Huddersfield Town midfielder Alex Pritchard was delighted to be back on the pitch as the Terriers kicked-off their pre-season campaign with a 2-1 win over Bradford City.

Pritch played the opening 45 minutes as captain in the pre-season opener as the Terriers returned to competitive action with preparations continuing for the 2020/21 season on Wednesday afternoon.

The midfielder looked back on a positive afternoon for the Terriers at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“It’s good, it’s always good to get back out on the pitch and play a competitive football match,” he said.

“We expected to have one the other day, it got called off, so we had to train on the Saturday and get prepared for this game and I thought we did well today.

“We got the minutes in the legs that we needed, and we have another one on Saturday, so we’ll move onto that now.”

As Town’s pre-season opener, it was also the first opportunity for supporters to see Carlos Corberán’s Terriers in action following the new Head Coach’s appointment last month.

Pritch reviewed Town’s first outing under the Spaniard, a performance that carried intensity and energy throughout the 90 minutes.

“(The intensity) was good.

“We’re setting up in a different style, so we’ve got to go to that game plan now and I thought we delivered it well in moments.

“There’s moments that we need to keep working at and we’ll do that in the week to keep getting ready for that first game against Rochdale.

“Today we all bought into it and it worked well.”

As is conventional in a pre-season friendly, Corberán made plenty of changes at the break, with a young look to Town’s side in the second half, with players from the B Team as well as Town’s Under-19s side getting an opportunity at senior level.

Pritch has enjoyed working with a handful of the Young Terriers since Town’s return to Canalside for pre-season with the B Team now training with the senior side.

That includes midfielder Josh Austerfield who started the game alongside him in a midfield three and went on to play the full 90 minutes in the pre-season opener.

“Everyone’s put a real big shift in,” he said.

“It’s been really good having the young lads in with the senior lads and it’s a good mixture. We’ve got injured players coming back too so it’s a bright future.

“He’s (Josh) still learning but I think every player is learning on the job.

“Especially with Josh playing in that deeper role today, I think it helps him out on when to talk, it makes a big difference when you talk to the people around you, it helps you out.”
