How will Joel Pereira fit in at Huddersfield Town? Manchester Evening News reporter Richard Fay gave his opinion on the goalkeeper!

What should Huddersfield Town fans expect from Joel Pereira?

The fans can expect a driven and determined goalkeeper who is looking to get his career back on track with a defining season on loan from Old Trafford.

Pereira is a popular member of the First Team squad at United and has a close friendship with fellow shot-stoppers David de Gea and Sergio Romero, having trained with the senior side regularly since his breakthrough.

The 24-year-old has fallen down the pecking order in recent years but knows this season might well be his last chance to prove himself at the top level with his contract set to expire next summer.

What are his best qualities?

Pereira is well known for his shot-stopping abilities and his reflexes in net. The goalkeeper also has a decent range of passing and is known to command his box.

In our new style we want to play out from the back, how accustom is he to that?

Playing out from the back is something relatively new for Pereira in a First Team sense, but he did play in a similar style during pre-season with United last summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has himself incorporated a desire to build from goal and as such Pereira took part in plenty of passing exercises a year ago, as well as in training with the First Team squad.

He’s 24 now, how has he developed at United?

Pereira was famously dubbed 'the future of Portuguese goalkeeping' by compatriot, and former manager, Jose Mourinho. However, it hasn't quite worked out that way so far.

Time is still well on his side and his experiences away from the Club have grown him accustom to the gritty nature of senior men's football. Pereira has bulked up physically to cope with the demands of playing every week but is yet to reach the same heights which saw him shine so brightly in youth football.

How has he performed on other loan spells and how has that developed him?

It's been a bit of a mixed bag for Pereira in his time away from the Club. The young goalkeeper has experienced a bit of a reality check following his time away from United but has shown great maturity even during poor spells of form and is determined to prove his ability in senior football.

Dean Henderson has shown just what a productive loan-spell in the Championship can do for his career, and now Pereira will be looking to emulate such success with The Terriers in the coming campaign.
