Danny Ward can’t wait to get going again at Huddersfield Town as he returns back to West Yorkshire after almost five years away.

The striker made 140 appearances for the Terriers before departing in January 2015. Over 200 career appearances later and he’s back in West Yorkshire ready to help Town once again.

When speaking in his first interview back, he explained how delighted he is to return to the Club.

“I’m very happy. All my family are here in Yorkshire and Huddersfield, so it’s the perfect move to be back home.

“I knew a lot of the people here; Hoggy and some staff members. Then obviously the new Head Coach coming in, finding out about his style of play, everything just seemed to click.

“It’s class coming back and seeing familiar faces. Sometimes going to a new club can be daunting, but it always helps when you see the old faces.

“I’m a Yorkshire lad, so to be back home is perfect for me. Hopefully, I can hit the ground running this season and get Huddersfield Town back where they deserve to be.”

A lot has changed around the Club since Danny departed, he detailed how surprised he was to see all the changes at the Training Ground.

“I couldn’t believe it when I had a look round last week; it’s fantastic!

“The changes are brilliant; the facilities are first-class, and I can’t wait to get going.

“There were still snooker tables, bowling greens outside when I was last here, so it was a bit of a working men’s club then as well, so to see how it’s changed is amazing.”

The 28-year-old believes he has developed a lot over the last five years or so too and is keen to show what he can do.

“When I was here last, I was playing for as a left-winger, but I’ve always seen myself as a striker.

“In the five years since I was last here, I’ve been playing games in the Championship and in the Premier League as a striker, which has helped me loads.

“Hopefully I can kick on here and help Huddersfield Town.”

The appointment of Carlos Corberán saw the Club change direction, Ward explained that the style of play and clarity on his role was a big factor in deciding to re-join the Terriers.

“I’ve been told that every player will be told exactly where they need to be and exactly what they need to do in their position, in the team and to get in the team.

“We are going to have an identity and that’s perfect.”
