New Head Coach Carlos Corberán says his first few weeks on the training ground with the Huddersfield Town players have been a positive experience.

Following his appointment last month, Carlos has been working with his new squad for the first time over the last two weeks, since the players reported back to PPG Canalside for pre-season training.

Town’s new Head Coach has been happy with how the opening weeks have gone and says he has been impressed with the way the players have applied themselves on the training ground.

Meeting with the media for the first time via his virtual press conference on Friday afternoon, Carlos is hoping that his squad can continue to build on the work done in the first few weeks of their time together.

“We are now nine days in working with the team and I think the first steps have been positive,” he said.

“But, I think, at the same time, it’s normal because when a new coach arrives, every player tries to give the best for the coach. The challenge is going to be to keep this level all the time and this is our target.

“We feel positive about what we have here in the Club, about the mentality, and about the open minds of the players - they want to give you everything.

“This, for me, is the most important thing.”

Speaking in the hours after Town’s Sky Bet Championship fixtures were released for the coming season, Carlos gave his thoughts on the schedule.

His reign will begin at the John Smith’s Stadium against Norwich City on the weekend of 12 September, before a trip to Brentford precedes games against Nottingham Forest, Rotherham United, Swansea City and Derby County.

Town’s new Head Coach says every game this season will be an opportunity for his side to showcase what they can do on the pitch.

“It’s not easy for any coach in the Championship! But I think this is one of the things in England. When you arrive, you can’t think that any team is going to be easy.

“We are going to respect all the teams a lot. That’s why we are here – because we like the challenges.

“At the same time, we are here because we like this competition. For me, the Championship is an amazing competition.

“Every game is going to be very hard but at the same time every game is going to be a challenge and an opportunity to show what we can do on the pitch.”

Along with Carlos, another new face around the training ground at the moment is Danny Ward who became Town’s first summer signing in midweek.

However, having spent four years as a Terrier between 2011 and 2015, the forward is no stranger to HD1. Carlos was delighted to have the opportunity to bring him back ahead of the new season.

“He was the perfect player to be in the squad to help us for what we want to do on the pitch.

“We are very happy that the Club and Danny had the same ideas. Danny wanted to come here and show something else to the fans and we wanted to have him on board.

“For me, he is a player that can give us the things we are looking for from a striker.”
