‘Olé, Olé, Olé, Olé, MOUNIÉ… MOUNIÉ!' A chant that rings round the John Smith’s Stadium that shows the great affinity the Huddersfield Town supporters have for the Benin International.

Mounié joined Town from Montpelier in May 2017 as the Club’s record signing. Spirits were high around the Club, who were heading into the 2017/18 campaign off the back of that astounding promotion to the Premier League.

And Mounié’s Town career couldn’t have got off to a better start! He bagged twice on his debut – in the Club’s first ever game in the Premier League. The first of those goals became a trademark for the striker as he utilised his strong aerial ability to head an effort into the back of the net; something that was later branded Air Mounié. His impressive debut performance made a strong and long-lasting impression on both fans and the team alike, proving straight away just what he is capable of.

Since that point, Mounié’s strong impact when stepping on the pitch has helped him become a firm fan favourite and one of the big names in the Terriers’ line-up. He helped keep Town in the Premier League scoring seven league goals and nine in all competitions.

Another highlight of Mounié’s came from that first season as he received both Town’s Player of the Month and Goal of the Month for February 2018.

Speaking to HTTV in an interview after receiving the awards, Mounié exclaimed his happiness to be the winner of both awards, which were voted by Town fans.

“It means a lot to me, I’m very glad and honoured to even be nominated player of the month.

“It means a lot that the fans are happy with me, I can see them singing my song at the games and I really appreciate that support!”

The Benin international played a key part in his country’s African Cup of Nations success in the summer of 2019 and has helped the Cowleys’ side this season too. He’s scored eight league goals this season and has been in terrific form since the turn of 2020.
