A stunning strike from Izzy Brown was all that was needed to seal Huddersfield Town’s spot in the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off places.

The 2016/17 campaign was drawing to a close and David Wagner’s side knew that one win would confirm their spot in the Play-Off places. The Terriers made the trip to the Molineux off the back of a 4-1 defeat to Wolves and without an away win in six-weeks.

Wolves, however, also came into the game failing to score in their last two home matches.

The home side began brightly and forced Danny Ward into action early on. Town’s ‘keeper denied a David Edward’s header at the near-post.

Town responded well, though, and Nahki Wells had two good opportunities. He fired over a golden chance from 14 yards out before having an effort saved by young Wolves ‘keeper Harry Burgoyne.

The chances continued to fall, and Izzy Brown made no mistake just after the 30-minute mark. He received the ball from Aaron Mooy and whipped a superb effort past the goalkeeper from 20-yards out.

After the opener, Ward produced an excellent save to deny Edwards from a Ben Marshall free-kick. Town’s ‘keeper continued in the same vein in the second half. He denied Weimann from close range before Edwards crashed the rebound against the woodwork.

Town finished the game strongly and held on to the vital three points, which led to memorable celebrations on the pitch in-front of the travelling supporters.

After the game Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner said:

“This was a very special night, an extraordinary night. Now we really have something in our hands.

“We have the play-off spot and the whole football club worked unbelievably hard to achieve something out of the season. To do it with two games left is an unbelievable achievement.”

Whilst defender Martin Cranie added:

“The lads are buzzing; we knew we needed a couple of points to cement it. To get the three tonight everyone’s delighted. It’s a massive achievement and we pulled together as a team and as a club.

“Everyone’s given us the underdog title from the start, and we proved how good we are as a team. We’ve come this far as a team, so why can’t we do it!”
