Huddersfield Town’s Under-17s will have learnt a lot from their latest Youth Alliance League game.

They were provided with a tough test from Lincoln City as they tried to continue their work on high fight zones.

“I think it’s been a real day for learning,” said Worthy.

“It will be really good for us to watch the footage back and look at tactically how we could’ve done better in areas.

“When you’ve got a group of 16-year-olds, the performance levels are going to fluctuate from a high like last week to most players being below par today; that’s all part of their learning.

“The aim over this period is to develop them so they can be more consistent as players.

“We came into this on the back of an excellent performance against Chesterfield where we implemented the high press and high fight zone really well, then now after this match we’ve come up against a very good Lincoln side in a different formation.

“This has shown us all the areas we need to work on tactics-wise when you come up against different sides, we can learn loads from this as a group and I can learn more about the individual players.”

Worthy and the rest of the academy staff can continue to fine tune the youngsters’ work on fight zones in all areas of the pitch, with a busy schedule in October to test out what they will have learnt.

The Young Terriers will feature in the Clarets Cup in Doncaster and also play two Youth Alliance League matches next month, all before returning to Lincoln in the Youth Alliance Cup, a fixture that Worthy is already relishing.

“The development games are all about trying things and taking what we’ve done into training into a game – we’ve got a few of those then we actually return here in the cup, which I’m really looking forward to now.”

Town’s Under-17s will face Doncaster Rovers in the Clarets Cup on Tuesday evening, where the main focus will be on performance.

The match will kick-off at 7pm and I’ll take place on the 3G pitch on the Keepmoat Stadium Complex.
