Huddersfield Town Elite Development Team winger Aaron Rowe was delighted to get on the scoresheet on his return from injury during a 4-0 victory over Oxford United’s Under-23s in the Premier League Cup.

Rowe was making his first appearance for the Young Terriers since picking up an injury in the 2-2 draw at Bradford Park Avenue on 30 July 2019.

The 19-year-old fired in Town’s third goal of the evening with just five minutes to play and hopes this will be the catalyst to kick starting his injury hit beginning to the season.

“Getting the goal is a huge confidence boost so I am pretty pleased. It is so important for me to get the minutes and it is even better to score,” said Aaron.

“Especially to score in the way I did, coming in onto my left, I have got a few of them.”

The young winger admitted that it took him some time to adjust to the pace of the match following over a month out but did feel he grew into the game over the course of the 90 minutes.

“I thought I started off quite slow, coming back from injury it was always going to happen, but during the second half I felt that I improved,” he added.

Rowe did, however, emphasise his joy at being back out on the pitch again after missing the majority of the Young Terriers’ pre-season schedule.

“Being injured is not a good place to be so being back playing I am much happier. I feel good and hopefully it can continue.”

New First Team management pair Danny and Nicky Cowley were in attendance at the John Smith’s during Monday’s encounter and Rowe revealed their presence offered him an extra incentive to impress.

“With the new managers coming in, you want to make your mark and get in the good eyes of them. I am feeling good so hopefully they can see that from me.”
