Elias Kachunga wants the squad to build on the first-half performance during today’s defeat at West Bromwich Albion as it prepares for next weekend’s game at home to Millwall.

‘Kache’ came into the side for his first start under Danny Cowley and setup Karlan Grant’s goal to put the Terriers 2-1 up at half-time, but the Terriers’ performance level dropped off in the second 45 – resulting in a 4-2 defeat.

“I think we played a good game in the first-half. We came into the game well, with a good game-plan, but we dropped a bit too deep and the second half is really disappointing for us. We had to try to play the full 90 minutes and to manage things better,” Elias told HTTV.

“Of course, West Brom came out with a lot of power. We knew they would press us, being at home and needing to come back in the game.

“We have to take the first-half into the next games. We must be on the front foot and concentrate. It’s not easy for us in this situation, but we must fight for each other and to stay in the game.

““We scored two good goals against a good team at home, but now we must bring the energy we showed in the first half back home with us and do it for the full 90.

“Every week we must talk about this, but as players we have to bring everything into the games and break this period of losing. We must win games.”

On an individual basis, Kachunga showed all the battling ethos that made him a fans’ favourite – and real quality in delivering the assist.

“I’ve always said that, if I get my chance, I will work my socks off and give everything for the team. I tried it again today, but unfortunately, we did not get the win.

“I tried to play a good game and the pass to Karlan for his goal was a good one, but also his first touch and finish were brilliant. This is why we have him. We showed that in offence we can do something – we are strong – but we must defend as well and not concede as many goals.

“We all have to work as hard as possible to bring this Club and this team back to winning. We must get a goal over the line, with everyone working together. We must keep working on the training pitch next week and bring that into the game.”
