Huddersfield Town’s Head of Football Operations David Webb discussed his role at the Club, working with Danny Cowley, recruitment and much more.

Webb joined Huddersfield Town a month ago today, 19 August 2019, as Head of Football Operations after departing Swedish top-flight side Östersunds FK.

Since that point, he played an integral part in the appointment of Danny and Nicky Cowley and has got to know the ins and outs of the Club.

When speaking to #HTTV for the first time, David detailed why he joined the Terriers.

“I’m massively excited because it’s a new journey for me personally.

“I only want to work in places where you feel like you can have an impact, make a change and work with really, really good people to make change.

“In terms of getting into the nitty gritty of the role, that will take time over the next few months.

“It’s been a whirlwind month, but now I’m looking forward to having a role in the Club’s success in the future.

The Head of Football Operations role differs from club to club and David explained what it’s like at Huddersfield Town.

“Here it’s more of an operational role, more hand-on working with different departments; Academy, Recruitment, Sports Science, Medical. It’s also intertwining well with the Manager.

“It’s making sure the Club’s departments are aligned to get one club vision, one club DNA.

“It’s never the same day-to-day, each day you never know what it’s going to look like in terms of production or output, but in this role, where it’s multi-layered, you have to run with it by a day-by-day basis.”

In his role, David will work very closely with Manager Danny Cowley to help Huddersfield Town develop.

“It’s important because it’s two new roles, two new members of staff and it’s always the people in these sorts of roles that drive the Club forward and make it successful,” explained Webb.

“We have a very close day-to-day working relationship, in terms of things that need to be discussed going forward and things that we will try to implement.

“Ultimately you want to protect the livelihood of the Club and implement new ideas that will affect a positive change for the Club; that’s key to the Head of Football Operations role.”

The Terriers are still looking for their first win of the Sky Bet Championship season, but Webb strongly believes that the managerial change will help turn the form around.

“Obviously now we’ve got Danny and Nicky in to affect a real positive change on the pitch in terms of performance.

“When you make a change like that, you’re changing the environment; players, staff’s mindsets.

“With that you have a better chance of having an impact on the pitch because that brings out positivity on the pitch.

“Going forward the more that goes on and is implemented, more we will see results on the pitch.”
