Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley admitted that his players struggled physically and mentally towards the end of the game at the Hawthorns.

The Terriers were beaten 4-2 away from home, despite taking the lead twice in the first half.

Danny Cowley, who has had 10-days on the training pitch with the squad for today’s game, gave his thoughts on the defeat.

“I felt for 60 minutes, the players delivered the game plan really well.

“I felt we were organised in our defensive structure, we forced WBA to play around us and not through us, and as a consequence we felt that we’d frustrated them and the supporters.

“We were able to get turnovers and be a threat on the counter attack and I was pleased with the players’ attitudes and selfless performance, particular the attacking players who gave so much for the team.

“Probably at about 60 minutes we started to play for the end, there’s definitely issues physically and mental; there’s no hiding place from that.

“We have to remind everyone how to win football matches, we have to make sure we make wins happen.

“When you don’t do that, you’re negative in possession and the opposition get sustained pressure. An opposition as good as West Brom will hurt you in that moment.”

The Cowleys have been working tirelessly both on the training pitch and in the video room with the players since their arrival.

Town’s Manager explained that the continuous work will reap eventually reap the benefits.

“We’ve given the players an unbelievable amount of information in this first 10-day period; it’s difficult. Sometimes you have to overload them and a consequence of that sometimes they forget things.

“I’m not too concerned about the goals because we can work on those tactically. The more we work and rehearse the less mistakes we will make.

“What I saw today was enough fight, not from everyone, but from most, and that gives me encouragement moving forward.”
