Mark Hudson’s side were beaten 2-1 by the Hatters at Kenilworth Road in their sixth Sky Bet Championship game of the campaign.
Town went ahead through Karlan Grant. The striker scored his fourth goal of the season sliding in a Terence Kongolo cross at the back post.
However, Luton Town equalised from the penalty spot through James Collins before a curling effort from Shinnie gave the Hatters the lead.
