Young goalkeeper Ryan Schofield spoke of his pride after making his Sky Bet Championship debut for Huddersfield Town.

The 19-year-old, who made his competitive debut for Town against Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup earlier this season, has been on the books with the Terriers since Under-9 level.

When speaking after the game, Ryan explained how big this game was for him and his family.

“It felt good. I made one save, that’s all I had to do really, the lads helped me out massively.

“It was a tough game really, a scrappy game and that on your debut is a tough one because you’re in and out of the game.

“I had to make one save and I did. I’m proud to make my Championship debut. I know the family are proud when they were watching that as well.

“All I can remember is watching Huddersfield Town. There’s been some good time and some bad times and that was definitely a good time to be fair.”

Middlesbrough’s strongest threat came from set pieces, but Town held firm and Ryan got his first competitive clean sheet for Town – the Terriers third clean sheet in four games.

“Every team has strengths; their strengths were set plays. Luckily by good defending, a good save, we managed to keep a clean sheet and they didn’t actually look that much of a threat in the end.”
