Huddersfield Town’s Elite Development Team got its Premier League Cup group stage campaign under way with a draw against Sunderland at the John Smith’s Stadium on Monday evening.

Despite exerting a level of control over the game due to calmness in possession, the Young Terriers couldn’t create the clear-cut chance that was needed to beat the Black Cats goalkeeper on the evening.

17-year-old substitute striker Kian Harratt came as close as anyone, heading over from an excellent Demeaco Duhaney cross late in the game.

Sunderland carried a threat on the counter but created their two best chances from set pieces.

Dean Whitehead’s side has five further fixtures in the competition, with the next being at Wigan Athletic on 11 November.

The next competitive fixture for the Under-19s and EDT comes at home to Tranmere Rovers in the Central League on 15 October.
