Lewis O’Brien wins his first BWF Player of the Month award for 2019/20 season
- Midfielder named as September BWF Player of the Month

- The youngster has progressed through the Academy to the First Team squad
Blue and White Foundation members voted Lewis O’Brien as Huddersfield Town’s September 2019 Player of the Month!
When the votes were counted Lewis took the win, preventing Karlan Grant from a consecutive win.
This is the first time the 20-year-old has won the award, following on from scoring his first goal for the Club against West Bromwich Albion.
He progressed through the Huddersfield Town Academy, having joined at Under-11 level, into the Club’s First Team set-up.
He won the Huddersfield Town Academy Player of the Year for two successive seasons before gaining his first experience of senior football with Bradford City during an impressive season-long loan in 2018/19.
Blue and White Foundation member Sarah Storer from Honley voted for Lewis and was randomly drawn out to meet Lewis ahead of the game on Saturday.
12-year-old Isaac Thornton from Clayton West also voted for Lewis and was the Junior Blue and White Foundation chosen to meet Lewis.
Both Sarah and Isaac will present Lewis with his Champagne alongside receiving a commemorative signed photo.
When speaking to #HTTV, Lewis was keen to highlight how much winning the award meant to him.
“I’m delighted to have the fans backing through everything we’ve been going through; it’s a great feeling.
“It means a lot to receive it so soon after starting for the First Team, it’s a great feeling for the fans to pick me out, especially as the entire team is working as hard as each other.”
Lewis has started every game since the arrival of the Cowleys and explained how they have immediately helped him develop.
“They’ve been helping me through everything, just little meetings here and there, through training and games – it’s the little things that usually help to be fair.
“They’ve said to me that I need to get higher up the pitch and get third man runs in behind which I’ve been thinking about quite a lot.
“I’m quite an attacking player but I’ve also got a defensive side, the Cowleys are trying to bring everything out in my game.”
All the money generated from the £2 a week that Blue & White Foundation members pay goes straight to the Huddersfield Town Academy, where Lewis progressed through!
