Huddersfield Town defender Tommy Elphick explained how the Cowleys’ personal touch has benefitted the squad.

The Terriers take on Blackburn Rovers on Saturday after the international break, which saw the players work even harder to fine tune the new style of play.

When speaking ahead of the game, Elphick described how the Cowleys found out about everyone off the pitch and how that helped the moral in the squad.

“Whether it’s in the canteen, whether it’s out on the pitch, whether it’s in the dressing room before or after the game – he’s always talking to you, asking about you and your family, trying to find out a little bit more and digging to us as people as well.

“That’s important because we have a lot of different cultures and a lot of different players from different backgrounds and getting that connection is so much easier when you know each other so well.

“I think a lot of what we do brings that out in the practices that we put in place on the training ground. The manager sets up sessions in certain ways to bring out personalities and bring out individuals, which is good for lads like myself who are a little bit older to try and help lads who you find out are a little bit shyer or are a little bit uncomfortable in certain situations.

“It’s brought the group together and I think you’re starting to see a group that are playing with a little bit more personality and character now as well.”

Coming into this game Town have picked up seven points from a possible nine.

Tommy admitted that it’ll be another good game, but they are focusing on getting another result.

“It’s going to be a tough game. They’ve changed their style, they can play in different ways and we’ve watched a lot of them last week.

“They’ve got some dangerous players, so we have to be fully respectful of that but we’re three unbeaten and the aim is for four unbeaten.

“When you’re in good moments and good periods you start to take awareness of these little runs that you’re putting together and in this League it’s so important when we’ve got another three-game week that can make a big difference to the League position we’re in.”

The defender detailed how that positive run of recent results has affected the mood both on and off the pitch.

“It sort of reflects each other – the mood in the dressing room and on the terraces. We’re excited to take the next challenge of games.

“We’ve got a little sprint before the next international break – a five game period where we can really go hard and we’re going to need everyone in the dressing room and the fans to play their part too.”
