Huddersfield Town Manager Danny Cowley was impressed by how his side rallied after a slow start to beat Barnsley 2-1 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Goals from Christopher Schindler and Karlan Grant either side of half-time were enough for all three points from the Yorkshire derby, despite a late Jacob Brown strike pulled one back for the visitors.

“I didn’t think we started the game as well as we would have liked,” admitted Danny.

“But credit to the players, I thought we fought really hard from the 15th minute onwards and probably ran ourselves into the game.

“We needed that to get a foothold in the game. Once we did, I thought we played some good football. I thought the front three were incredible.

“We were disappointed to concede, but I thought we managed the last 10 minutes really well.

“That’s now six unbeaten for us and I said in the changing room before that only good teams go six unbeaten in the Championship.”

Karlan Grant’s eighth goal of the campaign proved the difference as Town stretched the Club’s unbeaten run to six games. Danny was impressed with his forward’s all-round showing.

“We knew that we wanted to try and get Karlan as an outlet. We tried to use him a little bit higher, in the half spaces and then we could use him as an outlet on the counter-attack and I thought he did that brilliantly for us.

“They changed their personnel to mark him on several occasions in the game and I knew he’d score at half-time because he worked so hard.

“When you work as hard as that and make so many sacrificial runs for the team, the football gods are always with you. It was a big performance from him.”

Danny also praised two of Town’s younger talents; Lewis O’Brien and Jaden Brown. Both battled well throughout the 90 minutes for the Terriers.

“They’ve done great and they’re learning every day. They’re good kids. The best thing they’ve done is they’ve never got ahead of themselves. The better they’ve done, the harder they’ve worked.

“Lewis has been incredibly consistent. Jaden hadn’t played any First Team football, so to come and play your first senior football in the Championship is a massive ask and he’s done great.

“We feel they’re improving every day, they’re young so they are going to make mistakes. We understand that, so when they do, we have to protect them, try to help them and keep moving them in the right direction in terms of their learning.”

Following the win, Town have a full week to prepare for next Saturday’s trip to Griffin Park to face Brentford in the Sky Bet Championship.

“It will be good to get a full week in, going into playing a very good Brentford team. We’ve already had a look at them and they’re among one of the best teams in the league in terms of possession.

“The fact that we have seven days to prepare is really important for us. It will allow us to be effective come next Saturday.”
